Local Business generates youth employment and new venture
Kearney Ont., April 02, 2010 long time Kearney residents and business owners Robert and Derek Rickward have created a new business designed to generate youth employment in Kearney.
Canoe Algonquin will now offer “late arrival program” for their customers to pitch a tent on site prior to departing on` their Algonquin Park adventure.
Robert Rickward “ stated our customers come from all over Canada and United States arriving late Friday evening with no place to stay but sleep in their cars, our new late arrival service will allow them the opportunity to set up camp on Friday night before picking up their rental equipment en route to the park”. Our plan is to staff this late arrival service with local youth and generate an opportunity for employment. As a young boy growing up in Kearney, Robert Rickward is keenly aware of the need to generate employment opportunities for the youth of Kearney and area.
Honorable Kearney Mayor Jeff Johnston states “we are delighted of the initiative taken by a key local business to generate employment for our youth and the Kearney will be strongly behind the fund raiser to support this needed program”
Rickward mentions that the enthusiasm for this new venture has spread into the community and a local long time cottager is going to do a fund raising swim to help support our youth employment plan.
Scott Waites is scheduled to swim from Sand Lake to Kearney and will be taking pledges to complete this first “lake to lake” swim on Canada Day 2010. The swim will also allow others to participate from a shorter distance as well as team swim.
“Waites stated that “I spent my summers exclusively in Kearney and realize the need for youth employment.” “I was excited about the Canoe Algonquin’s plans and wanted to help out.” All pledges from the “Lake to Lake” swim will be entirely directed towards the youth initiative.
Robert Rickward states “our plan is to have this new venture in full operation for the summer season of 2010”
Canoe Algonquin along with Rickard’s Small Motors have jointly serving Kearney and area for over forty years.
